Keynote: Designing & deploying Smarter IoT Systems: Practical Edge Computing with RFID<\/i><\/b><\/a><\/p>

Abstract:<\/strong> The main objective of this speech is to explore edge computing applications using IoT systems. For this purpose, participants will gain hands-on experience with the core components of an RFID system, including how they design, configure, deploy, and operate an IoT application.<\/em><\/p>

A key part of the workshop will be a real-world scenario where an RFID reader with edge processing capabilities is fully set up and demonstrated. Through this scenario, participants will clearly observe the difference between centralized and edge-based processing, as well as how edge computing can significantly enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and system scalability.<\/em><\/p>

In addition, attendees will learn the fundamental design principles and key criteria for building IoT systems that leverage edge computing \u2014 including considerations related to data capture, data flow, data hosting, and integration with back-end systems.<\/em><\/p>

Samad Rostampour<\/b>

Bio: Samad Rostampour<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is a professor in the Computer Science Department at Vanier College and the IT Director of the IoT Lab at the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQAM). <\/em><\/p>

He holds a Ph.D. in the security of RFID systems and completed his postdoctoral research on designing efficient IoT architectures. His work bridges academic research and industry applications, with a strong focus on secure, scalable, and innovative IoT solutions. Over the past decade, Dr. Rostampour has led and contributed to projects in diverse sectors, including industry, healthcare, and retail, addressing challenges in real-time data collection, sensor networks, and edge computing. <\/em><\/p>

His expertise spans IoT system design, RFID technology, authentication protocols, and secure data transmission. He is an active trainer and speaker at international events such as RFID Journal Live, where he shares insights on emerging IoT technologies and their practical deployment. <\/em><\/p>

Passionate about education, he has developed and taught courses in networking and IoT systems, inspiring students to combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on skills. Dr. Rostampour\u2019s current research focuses on integrating IoT with cloud and AI technologies to create intelligent, secure, and efficient systems that address real-world needs. <\/em><\/p>
