NoF 2024 Best Paper Award
Welcome from the Chairs of NoF 2024
On behalf of the Network of the Future (NoF) Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to warmly introduce you to the 15th International Conference on Network of the Future (NoF 2024), that is taking place in Castelldefels, Spain, on October 2-4, 2024. We are delighted to welcome you in a calmer neighbour to one of the top tourist destinations in Europe, Barcelona.
Since its creation in 2010, NoF has been a premier annual conference that covers advances in the area of Future Internet design, with emphasis on enabling technologies, architectures and services.
In recent years, networks have been witnessing a significant transformation that is resulting in new ways to address the deployment of applications and services in a digital society, but also the way differentnetworking dichotomy, i.e. wired, and wireless, fixed and mobile, as well as terrestrial and non-terrestrial, shape the network of networks, creating the resilient infrastructure of the communication networks. The advances in AI and in particular, in the use of Large Language models, have raised yet more need for the networking and computing platforms to come together and provide holistic services to today’s digital society, and industries. The emerging 6G communication technologies have incorporated majority of these trends with the aim to facilitate such services.
The NoF 2024 programmes reflects the research and innovation trends in the networking and the Internet design, comprises of 3 Keynotes, 9 technical sessions, 2 demo sessions, 1 panel, and 2 Tutorials.
The first keynote will be delivered by Marceau Coupechoux, Professor at Telecom Paris, France, who will explore prospective scenarios for reducing the carbon footprint of mobile networks, focusing on a case study in France. The second keynote will be presented by Pal Varga, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary. He will discuss interoperability in communication for Industry 5.0, driven by applied AI/ML. The third keynote will feature Riccardo Trivisonno, Head of Network Architecture at Huawei Technologies, Germany, who will outline the evolution towards an intelligent 6G system architecture.
The panel will focus on building trust in 6G, offering security and privacy insights from leading European projects. Moderated by Bin Han (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, Germany / Hexa-X-II), the discussion will feature expert panellists from various European projects: Ioannis Markopoulos (Nova, Greece / ACROSS), Fabrizio Granelli (University of Trento, Italy / HORSE), Antonio Skarmeta (University of Murcia, Spain /RIGOUROUS), and Juan Morales Sáez (Telefónica, Spain / QSNP).
The first tutorial will cover the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for understanding, monitoring, and controlling 6G networks, presented by Rasoul Nikbakht and Albert Bel from CTTC, Spain. The second tutorial will focus on leveraging data engineering and distributed ledger technologies for the realization of B5G/6G networks, led by Madhusanka Liyanage from the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin, Ireland, and Engin Zeydan from CTTC, Spain.
Our organizing team have also put together an excellent social program to allow you not only to network with other attendees, but also to enjoy the beautiful beaches and amazing culinary of the area.
We would like to thank all the technical and organising committee members, as well as all reviewers, authors, and presenters, who greatly contributed to the success of NoF 2024.
We hope that you will enjoy the conference thoroughly and engage in many fruitful discussions during the event.
We are looking forward to a successful conference on the network of the future in Castelldefels!
